Can I write to you?
Beginning again that which was never begun?

The air is gray today.
The street seems lost.
I am imagining a hill far away, and the slightest sound of running children in the distance.
I am imagining that hill, and it can be anywhere.
And I am before it again.
And I am upon it again.

And I am beside you, and in front of you.

And I hear you singing.
And that song is unaccompanied.
But I am singing behind you,

Do you hear me?

And the children are running on the hill now,
And I am watching the setting sun.
And I am hearing you write letters you will never send.
And I am holding you in these arms that have never touched you.
And the sun continues to set.

And I am saying:

Don’t be afraid.
Time will protect us.
The hill is gentle.
Children are singing...
Listen!
They could be ours!

Don’t be afraid.
